Strategic Design Chief (Contact: Monica Rego- [email protected])
Location: Dearborn, MI

Job Description:  Oversee, manage and lead Strategic Exterior and Interior Design Team in Ford’s Global Strategic Design organization. Scope to also support Production Programs. Position will reside in Dearborn, MI, and will report to the Global Strategic Design Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Integrate and collaborate with Corporate Management and Marketing Leadership team to develop strategies and innovation for design concepts and consistent brand message for Ford and Lincoln.
  • Lead the delivery of Exterior and Interior Strategic Design product plans, brand strategies, and feasible product proposals within resource and budget targets.
  • Ownership of all aspects of Exterior and Interior design, including proportion, surface language, component detail, identity and graphics.
  • Provide creative project leadership and direction to a team of Designers, Modelers, supporting Engineers, and Suppliers.
  • Present product proposals to Senior Leadership for review and approval, using ‘state of the art’ design techniques and technologies.
  • Responsible for the leadership, management and development plan of team resources.
  • Accountable for the quality and integrity of the work results.
  • Accountable for the effective operation and ongoing development of the Design Studio function.
  • Work with third party agents to support project activities as required.
  • Build relationships with Design Schools and Universities to promote Ford Design and collaborate on projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Transportation Design.
  • 10+ years design management experience in OEM environment, working with global, multi-cultural team.
  • Extensive knowledge of design process and engineering principles.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to inspire a team of designers, digital and clay modelers, and engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills with design teams, senior product development teams and corporate management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent at creative idea generation.
  • Flexible, committed and motivated to deliver in all circumstances, within a small local team environment or internationally located design studio.
  • Highly developed organization & prioritization skills.

Special Knowledge Preferred:

  • Experience using Design Thinking Methodologies.

Job Description: Deliver new, compelling design solutions and product innovations for automotive exteriors or interiors. Base and Agency positions available in both Dearborn, MI and Irvine, CA studios.

Responsibilities:

Job Description: Lead the Design theme progression by driving creative, optimized, and feasible solutions on time that deliver the Design vision and program objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as technical liaison across functions, attributes, and programs to ensure criteria and aesthetic balance.
  • Manage design property and surface integrity to criteria.
  • Lead theme feasibility development from initial concept to production surface solutions.
  • Provide system level studies of Design Studio & program alternatives while developing balanced theme & concept proposals, in advance of functional and/or supplier support.

Job Description: Design and develop Class-A surfaces that are optimized to design intent, engineering feasibility, and customer expectations.

Position Duties:

  • Develop and create Design Studio Class-A surface that represents the emotive character and art through the surface development process.
  • Produce theme surfaces ranging from initial concept viability to production Class-A surface solutions.
  • Create Design approved surfaces that demonstrate feasibility requirements and reconcile thematic intent.
  • Identify & eliminate surface anomalies through surface analysis, highlight development and verification.
  • Ability to develop creative surface solutions to Engineering/Manufacturing and Design challenges.

Requirements:

  • 5yrs minimum experience developing Class-A surface.
  • Extremely proficient at developing Class-A surface utilizing Autodesk and/or Dassault surfacing, visualization, and data management tools.

Job Description: Develop high quality, design intent interior/exterior clay models in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in clay model development and determine the best tools and techniques to deliver accurate execution within timing and Studio constraints.
  • Interface with all levels and functions of the Design team.
  • Ability to deliver a finished clay model to specification using all required tools.
  • Experienced in model setups, armatures, milling, and procedures to deliver finished model with speed and accuracy.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.

Requirements:

  • High level of aptitude/competency in understanding surface development and procedures in physical modeling techniques.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic work environment with continuous change and a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Proficient at creative problem solving.

  • Minimum 2 years work experience in automotive clay modeling.
