Automotive Design Manager, Ford Design

Job Description:

We are looking to expand our growing team of passionate, multi-national designers within our China Design Studio.

This leadership role within the Design Studio supports the creation of both production and advanced design work on multiple programmes. Working closely with your diverse team of designers and cross-functional partners you will steer the design development of production programmes from initial Design Brief creation through to final surface release. In this role you will manage, mentor and support your team to deliver within challenging programme time lines and technically complex constraints.

Responsibilities:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a senior designer is required, while experience working with a global OEMs is preferred
  • The delivery of highly emotional exterior and interior designs, meeting often complex programme assumptions within a go-fast studio environment
  • Presentation of design reviews to senior management
  • Curate design work, steering your design and modelling teams within the context of design and engineering inputs
  • Deliver design intent through highly collaborative interaction with product development colleagues and outside suppliers
  • Strategic thinker but with a passion for detail
  • Team-focused, highly organized with exemplary communication skills; written, visual and verbal
  • Proficiency in 3D modelling tools is highly desired
  • Profound knowledge of China market is preferred
  • Good English & Mandarin communication skills is preferred

UX/UI Manager

Location: Shanghai

Job Description:

Lead a team of user experience and human interaction designers and researchers to research and develop concepts for new customer experiences and other features for in-vehicle and out-of-vehicle scenarios.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team to deliver user interface requirements and user experience strategies for our business
  • Conduct user research and evaluations to design and analyze user behavior, interactions and other elements of product design
  • Partner closely with business development teams to suggest conceptual designs based on functional and business requirements
  • Partner closely with product owners and product managers to refine designs and product requirements during development of final end consumer products
  • Support the development of prototypes and designs to validate research and develop product user experiences and customer interactions

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Master of Arts in any of the following: Marketing, Communications, Product Design, Industrial Design, Human Interaction, Architecture, Design or Bachelor or Master of Science in any of the following: Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar fields
  • Knowledge of design thinking, user experience design and similar practices
  • Self-learner of in-vehicle technology and mobility related applications
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to communicate with product managers globally
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and under aggressive timelines
  • Accustomed to operating in a product-drive organization or with agile methodologies
  • Ability to define trends in digital industries, product design and usability to update and adjust product design direction
  • Highly fluent in English and Mandarin; Candidates should be flexible with work hours due to time differences between markets

Requirements:

  • Ability to think three-dimensionally, with a strong emphasis on proportions, sophistication, and a refined sense of graphics and form

HMI Design Team Leader

Location: Nanjing

Job Description:

This is an opportunity to grow and develop a HMI team in Ford of China, capturing the market needs and ensuring delivery of digital assets that resonate in the market. Working with Ford Global HMI, Joint Ventures, internal partners and third party resources you will be part of changing Ford as it redesigns user experience priorities. 

Responsibilities:

  • Creation of Global User Interface designs and specifications for In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) digital components, such as clusters and center stack infotainment systems that are designed and released in the Ford Asia Pacific region
  • As a team leader you will guide a small team of HMI designers; providing coaching and skill development while leading the team to achieve timing commitments
  • Through research, understand the customer expectations for controls and displays for the Asia Pacific markets and communicate needs to local China software development team
  • Guide the line-up of HMI displays and controls including the identification of all new features and interactions that impact digital displays for all programs developed in the Asian Pacific region
  • Work as part of cross functional team including Digital Design aesthetics, Software Development team, using Scaled Agile Framework
  • Deliver China specific graphical design and service interactions to accelerate Fords position in China

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of HMI design and delivery
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Interaction Design or equivalent
  • Proven experience in graphical design and delivery
  • Profound knowledge of China market is preferred
  • Good English & Mandarin communication skills is preferred
  • Capable of working in a cross-functional role with software and hardware teams
  • Experience with QT, HTML5, Adobe Creative Cloud, Illustrator, Photoshop or equivalent preferred
