Chery’s bid to become a global player has seen the Chinese brand decide to set up a development and design centre in Germany, under new subsidiary Chery Europe GmbH. The Raunheim, Frankfurt-based facility will primarily be responsible for launching European models sold under the Exeed brand, at the start of the next decade.
We’ve previously reported that James Hope, who first mooted this move back in June, will be in charge of the studio as part of his role as executive director of European and “international” design for Chery.
The aim is to have 30-50 research and development employees working in the new design centre within the next year. The first car to be released by Chery Europe is the Exeed TX, a mid-sized SUV they revealed at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
