Tobias Sühlmann, outgoing head of Bugatti exterior design, has joined Aston Martin Lagonda as chief exterior designer.
This marks the first time he has worked professionally outside of the Volkswagen Automotive Group, having previously been credited with the new Arteon, the Sport Coupé GTE that spawned it, the T-Prime GTE and the new Touareg – after all of which he then moved to Bugatti last year to fill the role vacated by Sasha Selipanov. His subsequent replacement at Bugatti is unknown at this point.
His new boss, chief creative officer Marek Reichmann, told us: “Having known of Tobias for some time he is an incredibly talented designer with a breadth of industry knowledge, specifically in the area of mid-engined sports cars, and will be a great asset heading up the new studio in Milton Keynes”
This move in turn pushes Miles Nurnberger up to the role of design director, also answering to Reichman.
