It has just been announced that Ex-Nio, Bentley and Infiniti designer David Hilton has joined Changan Automobile as Strategic Design Director. Hilton, who was formerly Senior Design Director at Nio (NextEV) and Head of Exteriors at Bentley Motors, will be based in Chongqing in the Southwest of China but will also oversee the brand’s other studios in Turin, Italy and Shin Yokohama, Japan.

With over 25 years of automotive design experience, he has designed a variety of vehicles for brands such as Bentley, Infiniti and Ford, including the Ford S-Max, Focus RS and several Bentleys. From 2015 he was Senior Design Director for Nio, creating the shatteringly fast Nio EP9 and co-creating their visual image and brand identity.

“Changan is in a unique position now to not only simplify and clarify the brand line up,” said Hilton, “but to also build on the quality and history which already exist. I am looking forward to helping create a unique visual and product design positioning for this very important Chinese brand.”

Changan is China’s biggest automotive brand, building 1,280,000 vehicles in 2016.
