Geneva 2018: Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo concept

Porsche’s Mission E Cross Turismo looks more like a production car than a concept, and is likely to be a fairly reliable preview of the production Mission E. On a new powertrain, the Mission E Cross Turismo previews an electric crossover, or CUV (cross utility vehicle) from the German carmaker.

The floating roof and generous glasshouse hint at a shooting brake body style, while the muscular wheelarches and rugged off-road style cladding on the sills and wheelarches signal the car’s off-road capability. There is something of the Scandinavian snow/extreme sports accessories company POC’s styling to the concept, and, aptly for a Geneva launch, the ski references are clear.

The concept’s white body, with black cladding and deep blue wheels and accent colour gives the Mission E Cross a youthful vibe that should appeal to those of a sporting disposition. There is, apparently, adequate space in the boot for a pair of skis and loading straps to secure them.

The black cladding signals off-road capability but the body shape is sleek. A low bonnet, tapered roofline and the tail lamp band links it to the Porsche’s design family. While this concept has the higher ride height that you would expect from an off-roader, aero considerations are there, notably in the air curtains around the front wheels.

On the inside it has a new concept dash with a long centre console touch panel and small touchscreens integrated into the vents and near the windows for controlling ventilation among other functions. An integrated drone in the trunk emphasises its future-transport status and adds a touch of concept car whimsy to what is actually a pretty good hint at one variant of the future Mission E family.
