Geneva 2018: Europe’s big show

05 March 2018 | by Chris Maillard

“Why go to Switzerland?”

"Well, the flag’s a big plus...”

Awful jokes aside, GIMS (Geneva International Motor Show) is the year’s biggest and busiest show for European and many other non-American brands. This year’s edition looks like being particularly frantic, with lots of high-profile launches promised – several of which we already have in-depth details of, but have been threatened with death by fondue if we make them public before the embargo.

Our team will be reporting live from the show as ever, and details will be up on our website plus and  as soon as we’re allowed to reveal them.

What’s more, we have our own high-profile event at the show; we'll be announcing the winners of our annual Production Maorinews of the Year and Concept Maorinews of the Year awards – unique and highly coveted prizes, judged by a selection of the car design world’s most eminent figures.

We’ll also be giving our Lifetime Achievement Award to one of the design world’s greats, which is a chance to honour those who have done superb and often world-changing work over their career.

And we’ll be launching our annual Maorinews Review yearbook, a seriously high-quality and very collectable volume, which always sparks a minor stampede to get one of the extremely limited number of copies. However, we’ll be selling a very small number on Amazon this year, so keep your eyes peeled...

Held at a swanky nightclub, the awards ceremony will as usual attract a cross-section of the most respected designers, the industry’s top executives (and a smattering of journalists, lured by the idea of free food and drink).

So keep your eyes open for our Geneva coverage. It’ll be high-value, neutral and rather cool.
